Constitution & By-Laws


ARTICLE I. GENERAL

The name of organization shall be the “Lorena FFA Chapter.” This chapter shall abide by the rules and regulations in the constitution and by-laws found in the latest edition of the National Official FFA Manual.


ARTICLE II OFFICERS


1.
The officers of this chapter shall be as follows: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, Sentinel, Student Advisor, Historian, Parliamentarian, and Chaplain. The officers shall perform the duties of their offices as outlined in the FFA
Manual.

2. To hold an office in the Lorena FFA Chapter, the officer must be enrolled in an agriculture science class both semesters of the year that the office is being held. Failure to do so will result in the officer relinquishing that office.

3. All members wishing to seek an office must fill out an application.

4. Officers will be selected based on the following criteria:

         a. Chapter Vote(50%)
               i. Each candidate will be allowed up to 3 minutes to give a campaign speech. Speeches will be taped and displayed to
               all members during a class day.

               ii. All paid members will be allowed to vote.

         b.  Test over FFA Knowledge(20%)

                i.  Each Candidate will take a 50 question test over knowledge and workings of the FFA Program

         c.  Application(30%)

                i.  Each Candidate will submit an application to be evaluated by the Retiring Senior Officers and FFA Advisors.

                ii.  The Application will include a resume, 5 thought questions, and 3 Current Teacher Recommendations


ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP

1. An active member shall be considered in good standing when:

           a. The member attends local chapter meetings while enrolled in the school where the local chapter is established.

           b. The member shows an interest in and takes part in the affairs of the chapter.

           c. The members must pay current National, State, Area, District and local dues regularly and act in a manner consistent with
                the ideas of the organization.

          d. Members must be enrolled in an agriculture science course to maintain membership.

          e. Membership and all privileges thereof will be revoked immediately by officers and advisors if a student misconducts               
               himself/herself while participating in an FFA activity so as to bring disgrace to the chapter.

2. Honorary Chapter FFA Degrees may be confirmed each year.

ARTICLE IV. ANNUAL CHAPTER AWARDS GIVEN AT PARENT/MEMBER BANQUET

1. Certificates of merit will be given to members for outstanding performance in the various phases of agriculture career and technology work.


ARTICLE V. CONVENTIONS

1. Lorena FFA shall attend the District, Area VIII, and State FFA Conventions.

2. Attendees will be selected from active membership.

3. State conventions attendees must serve in some capacity at the convention to attend or be an award recipient or a participant in some form of competition at the convention. Graduating seniors may attend the convention only if they are receiving an award or participating in a contest or running for state office

4. Attendees’ Responsibilities:

         a. Attend all sessions of the convention

         b. Attendee must wear official dress to all sessions unless the advisors specify not to.

         c. Attendee will be representing Lorena FFA, Lorena High School, Lorena I.S.D. and the community of Lorena. Therefore, all rules
             that apply at school will be in effect on the trip.

         d. Attendees’ failure to follow school handbook rules will result in a one-way bus ticket home (at parents’ expense). Parents and
              school officials will be notified.

5. Convention Provisions:

          a. Travel to and from the convention will be provided by Lorena I.S.D., if the budget allows.

          b. Hotel accommodations will be paid for by Lorena FFA. This does not include room service, telephone, or pay per view
              movies.

          c. Lorena FFA will pay all convention registration fees.

          d. Lorena FFA will provide for at least one meal while at convention.


ARTICLE VI MEETINGS

1. The chapter meetings will be held monthly, except when other FFA events coincide.

2. The Annual FFA Banquet will constitute the May meeting. The months of June, July and August will not have meetings due to summer break.

3. The officer team shall have power to act on any matters that need to be disposed of before a regular meeting.


ARTICLE VII AMENDMENTS

1. The proposed amendments must be approved by a 2/3 vote of the active members of Lorena FFA chapter.
